Volunteers Needed, Weather Safety Procedures & Swim Meet Results
Dear Otter Families,
The email contains a few notices, be sure to read through the end. First, we have our final regular season swim meet this Thursday 7/17 at the Hampton Ridge Pool. There are still many open volunteer jobs that need to be filled. If you are attending the meet be sure to sign up for a job! Second, we want to ensure everyone is aware of our standard safety procedures when thunder or lightning is observed during practice or meets.
⛈️When Thunder is Heard or Lightning is Seen:
All swimmers and coaches must immediately exit the pool and surrounding deck area.
- We will follow the “30-minute rule” — practice will pause for 30 minutes from the last sound of thunder or last visible lightning strike before resuming any water activity.
- If thunder or lightning is observed again during that time, the 30-minute countdown resets.
What Happens Next:
- Coaches, along with the Committee, will monitor the weather and determine if it is safe to resume practice, switch to dry-land workouts, or cancel the remainder of practice.
- We will communicate updates as quickly as possible via SwimTopia.
Please note: These safety guidelines align with USA Swimming and national aquatic safety standards as well as the Hampton Ridge Swim & Racquet Club rules. We appreciate your cooperation in helping us keep our swim community safe and informed.
Finally, we did win our last swim meet on July 10th! Those results are attached.
If you have any questions, feel free to reach out.
Thank you,
🦦Swim Team Committee
