We can’t have a great season without volunteers! Each swim meet will have multiple volunteer opportunities that need to be filled.

ALL families will also be assigned various snacks, condiments and/or drinks for each HOME MEET, to sell at the concession stand.

Parents must volunteer for a MINIMUM of three events during meets. Each volunteer position will be for the entirety of the meet (so you will be signing up to volunteer for 3 meets).

Volunteer Positions

STARTER (Announcer)

This is a great job for someone with a strong voice. The Starter/Announcer keeps the meet moving quickly and smoothly. This is the most technically demanding job. The Starter/Announcer runs the events in the meet by ensuring that the swimmers start simultaneously and oversees all the other meet officials. This is a leadership position that requires experience and a take-charge personality. It is up to the Starter/Announcer to keep the meet moving. (HOME MEETS)

TIMER

Timer - The timer starts the stopwatch at the sound of the whistle in the beginning of each heat. The timer stops the device when any part of the swimmer touches the wall. The timer will then input their time and the time of the other timer in their lane on the sheet of paper provided. There is a timer from each team working each lane. Training will be required for the timer jobs. (ALL MEETS)

STROKE AND TURN JUDGE

The Stroke and Turn Judges shall be responsible for the stroke mechanics, proper turns, starts, finishing touches, and relay takeoffs. There shall be one Stroke and Turn Judge from each team on duty during every meet event. Judges must attend a SMSL Stroke and Turn Clinic for that particular year regardless of other certifications. Training Class Required. (ALL MEETS)

RUNNER

Collects the Timer Sheets from the timers and the DQ (disqualified) slips from the Stroke and Turn Judges at the conclusion of each event and delivers them to the computer table. (HOME MEETS)

KID PUSHER

Parents are responsible for getting swimmers to the kid pushers on TIME so kid pushers can place swimmers in their proper order for their events. The 10 and under swimmers need to sit in the “Otter Box” so the kid pushers are able to locate them easily for their upcoming events. We need several people per meet to get swimmers lined up on time to keep the event running smoothly. The Kid Pushers send the swimmers to the designated Clerk of Course for line up of the swimmers. (ALL MEETS)

CLERK OF COURSE

There will be a clerk of course at each end of the pool during relays and only one at the starting end of the pool for all other events. The kid pushers will send the swimmers to the clerk of course and then the clerk of course will line up the swimmers for each heat/event. (ALL MEETS)

50/50 FUNDRAISER

This position requires someone to walk around the pool during the first half of the meet to sell 50/50 tickets which will be provided. (HOME MEETS - FIRST HALF ONLY)

SETUP/CLEANUP

The pool deck needs to be set up for each home meet by moving the lounge chairs and placing back stroke flags in proper location. Additional lane lines will need to be placed in the pool. At the conclusion of the meet, the pool deck will need to be put back in the same order as before meet set up and back stroke flags will need to be removed. Lane lines will need to be removed with the exception of the one that is in permanent position for lap swim. (HOME MEETS)
